Construction of Detamachi Pier began in 1952 and four berths ( a total berth length of 516m ) were completed in 1963 This pier has transit sheds with fumigation and controlled temperature facilities especially for bananas and fruits/vegetables. It is the main unloading site for fruits and vegetables including bananas and pineapples, so that the pier is sometimes referred to as " the banana pier
